Description

Stephen Lawlor’s practice includes painting printmaking and sculpture. Lawlor’s work is an ongoing engagement with European painting from 1400 to 1800. Between landscape and the human form, abstraction and figuration the artists’ prints explore and open up something in our collective memory of images that can be familiar or obscure, ghost-remnants of icons that stretch backward in time.

Stephen Lawlor ARE was born in Dublin in 1958. He lectured at IADT, in printmaking and drawing and was chairman of Graphic Studio Dublin, (2000-05). Stephen was elected an associate member of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers in London, (RE) in 2016 and was a founder member of the International Academic Printmaking Alliance (IAPA) at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in Beijing also in 2016. He was elected a member of Aosdána in 2018.

This work is included in his 2022’s exhibition In a Liminal Space.
