SO Fine Art Editions is delighted to present ‘Thin Places’: Clare Henderson and James Kirwan, an exhibition of new work.

Clare Henderson creates work relating to memories and secret histories that are depicted by lands and seas in mists, veils and ghostly figures. Now living in the West of Ireland, Clare is making work further influenced by the local history, lore and landscape of her new environment. While maintaining the signature soft blues and greys synonymous with her work, Clare has added some muted greens and ochres to her subdued palette.

James’ work is rooted in the duality of the conscious and subconscious mind, and our existence amid the natural world. His new body of work explores abstracted landscapes and forms through gathered imagery, distorted through digital filters and altered media formats. His psychedelic colour palette and experimental forms evoke a sense of cerebral mystification. Inspirations rooted in paganism, nature and the otherworldly imbue his works with an atmospheric hum and a sense of existence in the imaginary.

Clare and James’ work is connected through their interest in the unknown of liminal spaces and a consideration of ancient Ireland and its mystical pre-histories and lore. Through their imagery and use of colour their work visually and thematically plays, compliments and converses with one another’s, revelling in those transitional spaces of the mysterious.

Wexford-born James Kirwan is an experienced artist now based in Dublin. His work has been showcased in many solo and group exhibitions, and his mural work has been seen worldwide.

Clare Henderson received her degree in Fine Art from the National College of Art and Design. She honed her printmaking skills in Graphic Studio Dublin after being awarded the Graphic Studio Dublin Graduate Award (2005). Her work is held in many collections including The Office of Public Works and The National Gallery of Ireland.
