Shotai

31 August – 23 September, 2017

SO Fine Art Editions presents ‘Shotai’, an exhibition of works by renown and highly acclaimed Japanese artists who created lithographs with masterprinter Satoru Itazu in his workshop Itazu Litho-Grafik, Tokyo, Japan and the work of 20 graduate students and faculty members from the prestigious Tokyo University of the Arts (Geidai).

The vision for this show began with the graduate students who exhibited works alongside ‘A lonely impulse of delight’, the recent art exhibition dedicated to W.B. Yeats’ work that SO Fine Art Editions brought to Japan in May 2017. As well as individual prints, we will show a portfolio of works by the group of graduate students which will include Irish artists Richard Gorman and Ed Miliano.  Satoru Itazu trained at the Tamarind Institute in New Mexico and selects and works with artists, whose work is unconventional in style and concept. This exhibition provides a unique insight into Japanese art practise and focuses on the continuing bilateral bonds between Ireland and Japan in visual arts and literature.

Participants include Seiichiro Miida, Kaya Yaguraya, O Jun, Masahiro Arai, Takanobu Kobayashi, Catherine Chui, Sai Hashizume, Yoichi Miyajima, Yujiro Miyazaki, Shiori Ishibe, Aya Motomura, Shiori Ichikawa, Kei Imai, Sosuke Ueta, Yukiko Kishi, Azusa Takahashi, Kanami Hano, Koyomi Horioka, Simone Philippou, Mie Irokawa, Shoko Ohsugi, Shunichi Iwata, Fernando Saiki, Haruna Kimura, Atsushi Nemoto, Din, Mengya Pang, Yu Shan Ke and Nao Osada.

The exhibition also celebrates the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Japan and Ireland and is kindly sponsored by Yamamori, who are also collectors of fine Japanese art.
