Biography

Born in Dublin, Richard Gorman studied at Trinity College and Dun Laoghaire School of Art, where he graduated in Fine Art in 1980. In 1984 he moved to Paris to study lithography and etching at the Atelier Champfleur. His work draws much of its power from the compositional tension between increasingly prominent and boldly simplified irregular blocks on colour.  Frequent and extended visits to Japan have notably influenced his working methods and materials. Richard Gorman was elected RHA at the Royal Hibernian Academy in 2005, and has won numerous awards including the Palette d’Or at the 1986 Festival International de Peinture. His work is featured in collections such as the Irish Museum of Modern Art, the Civic Offices Dublin, the Ulster Museum and AIB Bank.
