Biography

Matthew Gammon is a photographer based in Boyle in the west of Ireland. Originally from England, Matthew moved to Belfast in 1990 to attend Queen’s University, where he obtained a BA in Politics & Scholastic Philosophy and an MA in Psychoanalytic Studies.  He has also received certification in Art History, and a Masters in Library and Information Studies from University College Dublin.

His practice captures and interprets the innate beauty to be found in both the natural and man made worlds, not only their interaction but also how our built heritage alters by nature’s attempts to re-establish itself over our creations. His current project focuses on the abstraction of the essential elements of our surroundings to portray a fresh aesthetic on how we see the commonplace and everyday.

He has been accorded numerous awards and grants including a First place award at the Irish Photographic Federation Mid-West National Print & Projected Image Competition, 2014. He has exhibited widely through Ireland including the Royal Ulster Academy, Belfast and the Royal Hibernian Academy, Dublin.
