Jill & Gill

Formation
Last opportunity : showing until 20th June

A series of unique works exploring kinetic expression and movement through illustration and printmaking…   see more information below.

Originally this body of work was created as a series of 5 unique panels exhibited as part of Art & Style in collaboration with Dublin’s top luxury store Brown Thomas. As one of six artists selected by Creative Director John Redmond, Jill & Gill took over a Brown Thomas window and gallery space within the store over a six week period. By pushing the boundaries and their skill sets they created five 2×1 meter hand printed panels with a multitude of mono printed layers and hand-painted touches.

As a continuation of this work, we are delighted to exhibit our ‘Formation’ collection in SO Fine Art Editions. The 5 panels have been re-interpreted into unique framed pieces which expands the collection of work across this theme of movement in a more commercial sense. As larger pieces they were assertive and told a story but, as smaller unique pieces they each hold a dynamic aesthetic. Trimmed to their core, the illustrations bleed off the edges, colour bounces within the frame and your attention is drawn to the exact part of each piece that was holding attention in those original panels.

Jill & Gill is a Dublin based collaborative studio, made up of illustrator Jill Deering and printmaker Gillian Henderson. Established in April 2016 while collaborating on a commission piece together, the two creatives business has grown organically.  The way in which they work is a truly collaborative process, with Jill creating elegant hand-drawn images which they, in turn, produce into screen-prints in Gillian’s Dublin-based studio.

The dancers featured in these images are Maria Nilsson Waller and Kevin Coquelard. Maria is a dance artist, choreographer and designer. She trained at Royla Swedish Balletschool and Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance, and furthered her studies at E.C.S.D Rosella Hightower, France. Kevin began dance an theatre as a child in Paray-Le-Monial, France. In 2008, he entered Conservatoire National Supérieur de Muisque et de Danse in Paris where he danced in choreographies by Hofesh Schecter and Itzik Galili.
