Biography

Lina Nordenström was born in Stockholm in 1963. She primarily works with prints, drawings and artists’ books, but also with public commissions. She studied at Gothenburg University 1982-85, The College of Printmaking Arts in Stockholm 1991-95 and the Royal University College of Fine Arts in Stockholm from 2000 to 2001. Since 1995 she has exhibited regularly in Sweden and internationally.
Since 2009 Lina Nordenström and her husband Lars Nyberg have run a print studio in Sweden, called Grafikverkstan Godsmagsinet/Warehouse Workshop in Uttersberg. Nordenström has also been a guest teacher on a regular basis at The University College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm, teaching about artists books and letterpress. Her work is held in The British Museum, The National Gallery of Ireland, the Museum of Modern Art, Stockholm and the Swedish Parliament among others.

Lina Nordenström focuses on work connected with maps. As well as using your eyes, the white outline maps of relief printing makes it possible to read her embossed ‘maps’ with your fingers too. The literary word inspires her also, with many of her works circling around the book as a symbol. Her artist books offer an alternative exhibition space, and provide a concrete picture of how to embrace literature with the sense of entering another reality as it gradually emerges page by page.
