New Works by Barbara Rae

March 6th – April 19th

SO Fine Art Editions presents its first solo show by internationally renowned painter and printmaker Barbara Rae. Born in Falkirk Scotland, she studied at Edinburgh College of Art, and was made a member of the Royal Scottish Academy in 1983 and a Royal Academician in 1996. In 1999 she was awarded a CBE and is an honorary fellow of the Royal College of Art. This exhibition showcases seminal works inspired by landscapes from her native Scotland to her travels in Spain, France , Ireland and the deserts of North America.

Rae’s works are not a literal translation of the landscape but portray the historical stories and human presence that lie within and that are left behind. Rae employs sweeping bold colours, dramatic lines and layers of texture to express her vision of the landscape, in particular ‘Sea Fence’ and ‘Achill Beach’, which stem from her annual residency in Ballinglen, Co Mayo.

Barbara Rae has worked in studios worldwide creating her fine art prints and says of printmaking “I enjoy the excitement of working with different master printers. Unlike the solitary act of paining in the studio, printmaking can be gregarious and the printmakers on the whole are very generous in sharing their ideas, personal techniques and secrets.”

Barbara Rae continues to exhibit regularly in the UK and internationally and her work can be found in private and public collections around the world.
